President Traoré to meet widows and orphans of fallen soldiers in landmark conference

In a heartfelt gesture underscoring his commitment to the families of fallen heroes, Burkina Faso’s President, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, will meet with widows and orphans of the nation’s armed forces on Thursday, March 13, 2025. The meeting, that will be held at the Ouaga 2000 Conference Hall, is part of the National Conference on Social Reconstruction and Empowerment of Widows and Orphans in crisis contexts, organized by the Agency for Support to Widows, Orphans, and War Victims (ASVOVIG).

Since assuming office, President Traoré has consistently prioritized the welfare of military families, who often face economic, social, and psychological challenges.

This initiative reflects his determination to address their needs and honor the sacrifices made by those who defended the nation.

The conference, running from March 11 to 13, brings together institutional actors, partners, and civil society representatives to strengthen support mechanisms for these vulnerable groups.

ASVOVIG, established in 2023, plays a pivotal role in providing psychosocial support, legal and administrative assistance, and vocational training programs for war-affected families.

The agency’s efforts align with President Traoré’s vision of ensuring that no family is left behind. “Behind every fallen soldier is a family that deserves our respect, compassion, and support,” the President has repeatedly emphasized.

The meeting offers a unique opportunity for direct dialogue between the President and the families of fallen soldiers, fostering a sense of solidarity and shared purpose.

Participants hope the conference will lead to tangible outcomes, such as economic empowerment programs and enhanced psychosocial support infrastructure.

This initiative not only highlights President Traoré’s empathetic leadership but also reinforces his image as a leader deeply connected to the struggles and aspirations of his people.

By addressing the needs of military families, Burkina Faso takes a significant step toward honouring its heroes and building a more inclusive and resilient society.
