Togo’s fight against terrorism: A Strategic priority under President Faure Gnassingbé
Since the launch of Operation Koundjoaré in September 2018, Togo has intensified its efforts to combat terrorism and violent extremism under the leadership of President Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé. The initiative aims to protect the northern region, a critical area vulnerable to transnational threats affecting the region.
Recognizing the growing complexities of the security landscape, President Gnassingbé has implemented decisive measures to strengthen the operational readiness of the nation’s defense and security forces.
These measures include procuring advanced equipment and deploying enhanced logistical resources to ensure a robust response to emerging threats.
In a recent ceremony honouring fallen soldiers, the President paid tribute to the dedication and bravery of the Togolese Armed Forces. He emphasized the importance of vigilance and resilience, urging the military to uphold their commitment to defending the nation.
“We will not concede an inch of our territory,” President Gnassingbé declared, calling for nationwide solidarity to safeguard Togo’s sovereignty.
The ceremony also underscored the importance of national unity and collective resilience, serving as a reminder of the sacrifices made by those who have given their lives for the country.
Additionally, Togo continues to prioritize regional and international collaboration in its fight against terrorism.
These partnerships are crucial in addressing the cross-border nature of the threats and ensuring lasting peace and security in the region.
Through a combination of strategic actions and a steadfast commitment to its people, Togo remains resolute in its mission to counter extremism and protect its sovereignty.
