Burkina Faso’s new Minister of Humanitarian Action commits to addressing war-affected Populations
On Tuesday, December 17, Commander Passowendé Pélagie Kabré/Kaboré officially took office as Burkina Faso’s Minister of Humanitarian Action, pledging to align her work with President Ibrahim Traoré’s vision of justice, good governance, and effective public administration.
Her appointment comes in the wake of corruption scandals that have plagued the ministry, resulting in ongoing legal proceedings against alleged embezzlers of public funds.
Observers see the president’s decision to place a military officer at the helm of this critical ministry as a calculated move to restore integrity and efficiency.
This strategy aims to ensure that resources are directed toward the most vulnerable populations, particularly those displaced by the ongoing fight against terrorism.
Commander Kabré/Kaboré, in her inaugural remarks, emphasized her commitment to tackling the challenges faced by internally displaced persons and other war-affected communities.
“We will work to meet the needs of all those impacted by this war and to reduce social inequalities,” she affirmed. She also highlighted plans to enhance the living conditions of vulnerable citizens impacted by conflict and other adversities.
The minister stressed that humanitarian action must complement military operations aimed at reclaiming national territory. “Humanitarian efforts are crucial for consolidating military gains and restoring normalcy to liberated areas,” she noted.
This approach reflects President Traoré’s broader agenda of addressing both the humanitarian and security dimensions of Burkina Faso’s challenges, signaling a new chapter in the nation’s fight against instability.
