President Ibrahim Traoré targets corruption to Transform Burkina Faso’s administration

Burkina Faso’s President, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, is steadfast in his commitment to eradicating corruption, particularly within public administration. As part of his broader strategy for economic recovery and improved governance, the president has made tackling this pervasive issue a central focus, emphasizing its destructive impact on development efforts.

A key initiative in this fight was the establishment of the Commission for the Regulation of Dysfunction (CRD) on July 24.

This body is tasked with enforcing strict accountability measures, including applying penalties to negligent public officials and their supervisors who fail to act.

The CRD is also responsible for ensuring the implementation of recommendations from audit and inspection reports, which have often been ignored in the past. These measures aim to deter unethical practices and foster integrity within the public sector.

On October 26, the commission’s Orientation Council was officially inaugurated. Less than a month later, on November 18, President Traoré met with its members to provide clear guidance on fulfilling their mandate effectively.

During the meeting, he urged them to act as « Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland » (VDP) by promoting discipline, diligence, and a culture of accountability across public administration.

The president’s vision is to transform the public sector into a model of efficiency and service, ensuring it operates in the best interest of the nation and its people.

Through these reforms, he seeks to restore public trust and align government functions with the needs of Burkina Faso’s citizens.
