Football/ Al-Hilal: Neymar’s comeback cut short: Brazilian star faces new setback
Brazilian superstar Neymar’s return to football has been dealt another cruel blow as he suffered a thigh injury during Al-Hilal’s Asian Champions League match against Iranian side Esteghlal on Monday.
The 32-year-old forward, who had just made his comeback after a year-long absence due to a severe knee injury, lasted only 30 minutes as a substitute before being forced off the field.
The former PSG and Barcelona player had shown glimpses of his signature flair during his brief appearance but was seen clutching his thigh before leaving the pitch visibly frustrated, throwing a water bottle in disappointment.
Al-Hilal’s manager Jorge Jesus provided an initial assessment after the match: « We believe it’s a muscular injury, not related to his previous knee problem. He’s likely to be sidelined for at least two weeks. »
This latest setback adds to Neymar’s unfortunate history of injuries, which has significantly impacted his career in recent years.
The Brazilian had only recently returned to action following an anterior cruciate ligament rupture sustained while playing for Brazil against Uruguay in October 2023.
That injury had kept him out of action for his Saudi Pro League club for nearly his entire first season following his high-profile move from Paris Saint-Germain.
While the club awaits official medical results, this new injury raises fresh concerns about Neymar’s ability to maintain consistent fitness at the highest level.
