The ceremony, held at Place de la Nation in Ouagadougou, highlighted the military’s dedication to combating security threats facing the nation.
Defense Minister, Brigadier General Kassoum Coulibaly, emphasized the army’s significant progress and announced a comprehensive reform package.
« Our armed forces must continue their mission through enhanced loyalty and commitment to the country’s sovereignty, » stated Coulibaly during his address.
The minister revealed plans for internal « cleaning » operations to eliminate harmful influences within the military ranks. « Those with malicious intentions must step aside, » he declared, underlining the importance of maintaining the force’s integrity.
The reform initiative includes a major recruitment drive scheduled for 2025, aimed at bolstering military personnel while ensuring they embody Burkinabe values. Additionally, the defense ministry announced the forthcoming arrival of new military equipment to enhance operational capabilities.
Coulibaly acknowledged the crucial role of public support in these efforts, noting that national solidarity has been instrumental in strengthening the armed forces’ resolve.
The celebration’s theme emphasized the military’s commitment to national liberation and independence, reflecting Burkina Faso’s broader strategy to address regional security challenges.
This anniversary comes at a critical time as the country continues to face significant security challenges, particularly in its fight against armed groups operating within its borders.
